A Future We Choose: Advancing Science-Policy Dialogue for System Transformations Based on the GEO-7 Report

The Geneva Science-Policy Interface (GSPI) is co-organising a high-level public event on the findings of the seventh Global Environment Outlook (GEO-7), with UNEP and leading academic partners.

GEO-7 is UNEP's flagship environmental assessment, published in December 2025. It compares where current policies are heading with an alternative and achievable path across the systems of economy, energy, food, materials and the environment, and shows that the cost of inaction far outweighs the cost of change. For the first time, the assessment was shaped directly by Indigenous Peoples and traditional knowledge holders, bringing place-based knowledge alongside scientific evidence.

The event will present the key findings of GEO-7 and their implications for policy, governance and implementation, through keynote interventions and a panel discussion bringing together academia, international organisations and civil society. It brings together senior representatives from science, policy and the multilateral community in International Geneva.

The event is co-organised with the UN Environment Programme, the Geneva Environment Network, Institut des Sciences de l’Environnement (University of Geneva), Centre for Development and Environment (University of Bern), Wyss Academy for Nature (University of Bern), and the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT (CGIAR).
