DiploFoundation Science Diplomacy online course 2026

This course explores science diplomacy in depth. It asks how science diplomacy can contribute to global goals and the common good, which of its practices are relevant, who the key actors are and what is required of diplomats and of scientists. It also asks what is needed to ensure that science and diplomacy come together in working towards global goals and the common good. In answering these questions, the course explores science diplomacy in the context of geopolitical dynamics, the science-policy interface, practices of ‘boundary spanning’ and the anticipation of future science-policy interactions.
This five-week course is aimed at diplomats and staff of international organisations on the one hand, and scientists on the other. It makes an explicit effort to bring both groups together in a dialogue that is crucial in working on global challenges. The course will also benefit academics and NGO representatives working at the intersection of science and policy.
DiploFoundation develops and delivers the course in collaboration with the Geneva Science-Policy Interface (GSPI). Lecturers include Nicolas Seidler, Executive Director of the GSPI, and Dr Mialy Rann, Science-Policy Officer at the GSPI. The GSPI teaches the module ‘Bridging the world of science and diplomacy’, from 11 to 18 November 2026.
